Weekly Hightlights

Well Done
Congratulations to club member Priscilla Haden for the great article about her recently. Because it was such an uplifting article, we waive the fine she would normally incur for conducting a newspaper interview without benefit of her Rotary pin.

Another Waiver
You may have heard the cell phone ringing and we'll only report that this fine too is being waived because the sound was coming from the phone of our one woman dynamo – and she's just done too much for the club to impose a fine while keeping a straight face.

School of Life
The Charleston Vandalia Rotary Club has added another international project to our list of signature club projects. Five hundred dollars has been pledged to help operate the School of Life in Honduras.

Final Count and Amount
After paying all the bills and awarding all the prizes, you will be pleased to learn that the Charleston Vandalia Rotary Club raised $14,000 at the Reverse Raffle event this year. Hats off to everyone for their diligent and dedicated volunteer work that brought about another successful event for our club.

Welcome New Members
We extend the hand of Rotary to our newest members, Samantha Carney of the Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau and Talisa Burnette of the Scottish Rite. We look forward to learning more about you both.

HOLD THIS DATE:
ROTARY LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE
February 23, 2008  Ramada Plaza
South Charleston, West Virginia

West Virginia Rotary Districts 7550 and 7530 has scheduled a Rotary Leadership Institute at the Ramada Plaza, South Charleston, WV from 8:30 AM-3:30 PM. Please read the letter and make copies for distribution to your club members.  The cost is $85 per attendee and we would be willing to pay for registration for 2 persons to attend.   Please let Karen Price or Michael Keeney know if you would like to attend.

Please check out the RLI 33 website registration information and a more in-depth review of the program. This just may be the program to ignite future membership growth and involvement of your local Rotary club.

Upcoming Election
We are rapidly approaching the time of year when we hold elections for officers and board members for the coming year. We will be holding elections in March. If you are interested in being considered for a position as an officer or a Board member please pass your interest on to Dave Yaussey, another officer or board member.

Typically, while elections are open to anyone, we have traditionally asked members to serve first as board members, and then move up through the ranks as officers.  We will also be asking members to volunteer for committee assignments, to the extent you want to work on specific projects rather than committing to a busier position on the Board.

Speaker Notes

We want to thank Senator Brooks McCabe for spending time with us to talk about his political passion – Metro Government. Several of the larger cities in the state are stepping up to the plate to test drive this concept because of legislation Senator McCabe was successful at driving through the legislature last year. More work is being done this year so we'll see what success the pilot cities meet with as the framework gets a test drive.

Upcoming Speaker

Join us as we welcome Marie Beaver, Rae of Hope House to give us an update on the organizations expansion plans.
