Mark Your Calendar Chizuru treated us to an improvisation on the Japanese kotsuzumi or small hand drum, used traditionally in Kabuki. The day prior to their departure, they attended the Charleston Rotary Club meeting. They also had an opportunity to visit one-on-one with area community leaders that work in a profession or area of interest closely related to their own. For example Richard Merrill, a member of the Charleston Rotary Club and owner of Tyler Mountain Water, showed his operation to Masao Seki, CEO and owner of a bread crumb factory in Japan. You'll probably recognize one of his company's products, Panko Japanese Style Bread Crumbs. Some of the members of the GSE Team appreciated a complimentary Reiki Treatment by Mary Kathryn Saville. Joe and I would like to thank everyone for supporting their visit, particularly the following Vandalia and Charleston Rotary Club members who helped plan for their visit and opened up their homes: Ellen Archibald, Co-chair and Daniel Steers, liaison for the Charleston Rotary Club, and host family for Masao; Rebecca & Tom Tinder, host family for Yasuko; Chip VanAlsburg, host family for Yuki; Di Long & Bill McDavid, host family for Sayuri, and Ellen Cappellanti & Mark Carbone host family for Chizuru. In addition to Ellen Archibald's assistance, we'd like to thank the following
members of the planning committee for their help: Gaylene Miller and Mary
Kathryn Saville, along with both club Presidents, Karen Price and Brad Sims. Save the Date WV Read Aloud Save the Date Honor Your Pets Upcoming Prayer & Pledge Assignments We want to thank Tom Worlledge, President of the AIA and a partner in McKinley & Associates for talking to us about the Greening of West Virginia buildings. Tom is one of 4 LEED Certified architects who has been advocating for the cost savings and environmentally friendly these projects bring to companies and communities throughout the country. Like so many other people, Tom is advocating for recycling of excess building products as well as a more regional approach to purchasing of building products from local sources. Both the finished project and the environment benefit greatly on cost savings and saving the environment from unnecessary emissions of green house gases. West Virginia is moving more to the forefront of Going Green. Join us June 18th when we welcome Selina Midkiff, Director of the Appalachian Childrens Chorus. To join the Charleston Vandalia Rotary Club please fill out the online membership application or forward it to a friend. Hope to see you Wednesday morning. |
