Our yearly outing at the Power Park is set for June 30th.  Tickets are $18 per person which includes box seating and dinner.  Sign up sheets are being circulated so join the outing.  We thank Dave Yaussy and George Manahan in advance for providing the box seating.

Congratulations Sharon Hughes
Sharon is the big winner of our 50/50 Raffle taking in over $1,200 in one single draw.  Thanks to Sharon, the Vandalia Rotary Club is $600 richer.  That means more money for more worthy causes.  Thank you Sharon from bringing luck to yourself and to all of us at the Vandalia Rotary Club.

WV Read Aloud
Cynthia Kolsun is in charge of the signup sheet for the Read Aloud program scheduled for Malden.  If you missed the signup sheet and are interested in participating in this project check with Cynthia next meeting.

Save the Date
Pulitzer Prize winning author and New York Time reporter, David Cay Johnston will speak to the Charleston Vandalia Rotary Club on July 23rd. Johnston is author of two best-selling books – Perfectly Legal and Free Lunch. With his determined reporting Johnson answers the great economic mystery of how a strong and growing economy lends itself to job uncertainty, debt, bankruptcy, and economic fear for a vast number of Americans and shows us how we can finally make things better. We hope you will encourage members of other Rotary Clubs to attend.

Honor Your Pets
Between now and August 13th, we will be collecting dog and cat collars and favorite pet stories leading up to National Homeless Animals Day slated for August 16th at the Kanawha County Animal Shelter.  Despite their best efforts to adopt out pets, the shelter still has to put down over 6,500 pets a year.

The collars will be strung together all around the shelter grounds to highlight the plight of pets who cannot find good homes.  Nicky Walter from WOWK-TV is spearheading this project on behalf of the Shelter so if you need to reach her you may call at 982-0086.

But between now and August 13th Nancy Tonkin will collect the collars and stories you wish to share.  If you know someone who likewise is an animal lover, share this with them and ask them to participate directly with the shelter or through Nancy Tonkin at the Vandalia Rotary Club.

Upcoming Prayer & Pledge Assignments

Speaker Notes

Many thanks to Salina Midkiff for sharing her experiences as the director of the Appalachian Children’s Chorus (ACC).  The extraordinary choral group was founded in 1990 and today has grown from 12 members to more than 150 today.  Named the official children’s chorus of West Virginia the group serves as ambassadors of music in West Virginia and around the globe.  The ACC is looking for new young voices this year so if you know of anyone who loves music and learning, auditions will be held Sunday September 7th at 3 p.m. at the University of Charleston’s Keenan Hall.  For more information or to schedule a private audition contact the ACC office at 343-1111.

Upcoming Speaker

No speaker next week - Karen will reflect on her year in office, we'll install new officers/board members and honor new Paul Harris Fellows.
