Weekly Hightlights

Black Balloon Time
Charleston Vandalia Rotary Club President, Karen Price will celebrate (that's debatable) a milestone birthday this upcoming week. Karen Price is turning 60 (it hurts to type this) and once again Jane Cline and Bob Chilton are throwing open their home for a birthday party on Wednesday, July 25th starting at 6pm . You'll want to come early and leave early because old people just don't stay up much past 9pm. The party will count as a makeup meeting.

Nancy Tonkin will be the coordinator for the evening and she asks that you please bring a covered dish, soft drinks, a six pack or a bottle (I suggest the latter), plus any leftover Celebrex or Boniva you might have lying around. You can contact Nancy via email - Nancy.Tonkin@wvtmg.com to let her know what you are bringing.

Bob and Jane have a beautiful lawn and we might be able to persuade them to open the lanes to games like Jazzy jousting or even Jazzy motocross races. If enough interest exists we might also hire a tattoo artist to do Jazzy tats for those interested in launching a new Brotherhood of Jazzy Riders Club. Intravenous bong shots and oxygen poppers will also be in available for those of you too dumb and too old to know better.

Should be a good time and we'll say that in advance because most of us will forget we attended and that's just sad. Happy Birthday Karen!!! I can't speak for the rest of you but some of us weren't sure we'd live past thirty.

Brags
Lyne Ranson held top bragging honors this week. She informs us that 28 years ago on a Friday the 13 th she was accepted into law school. This past Friday the 13 th her daughter was likewise accepted into law school proving that for some folks this can be a very good luck day. Congratulations Lyne.

Brags also from Jennifer Wilts on behalf of Laura Ellis who just welcomed another grandbaby into the world. The baby will share the same birthday as her mother - Laura's daughter. Congratulations Laura.

Gabriel Project
Speaking of babies. It was truly a nice sight to see so many baby items being stockpiled for our newest club contribution project. Thanks to Mary Kathryn Saville for being so accommodating to club members by providing "personal shopping services". If you don't have time to shop, Mary Kathryn will take your monetary donation and put it to good use for you. As a result, the Charleston Vandalia Rotary Club will probably be contributing more of what the Gabriel Project needs to outfit new infants.

Take a Rotarian to Lunch Bunch
Karen Price tested out her new initiative to get better acquainted with members of our Rotary Club. As you recall, you can take a member you don't know much about to lunch and then each of you will report back to Rotary on two things you found out about that member that you did not know before lunch. It counts as a makeup meeting.

Karen reports that her lunch mate, Danny Scalise owns two homes at the moment and Danny reports that he learned he and Karen both live on the West Side of Charleston very near one another - hood mates if you will.

Speaker Notes

We want to give a special thank you to Debbie Huber for being our speaker this week. Debbie belongs to the Rotary Club in Tucker County that fed families during the Sago mining disaster. Turns out, Debbie is an old hand at angel of mercy work. She and her husband own seventeen Wendy's franchises and after the Katrina disaster she headed down to Mississippi and Louisiana to help her co-workers who lost everything and those who struggled. She has photos from her journey and it is a sharp reminder of that dark chapter in nation's history.
