Weekly Hightlights

Fundraising Sign Up Form
Not sure how it happened but the sign up form distributed by the Fund Raising Committee took a walk with someone on their way out the door this morning. If the person who wound up with the form would quietly return the same to Michael Keeney there will be no fuss and no fine. The Committee would just like the safe return of the form.

That said, the sign up form for volunteers for the Fund Raising Committee will be at the front desk next Wednesday morning for those of you who wish to participate. We thank you in advance for helping the Committee out.

Gandhi Day 2007
The India Center will host a talk by Congressional Candidate John Unger on Gandhi Day at 5:30pm October 6 th . The address will focus on Gandhi's Peace and Justice for an Age of Terrorism. If you need more information please contact club member, Dr. H.V. Krishna Murthy at 925-6086.

Appalachian Blues Contest
Club member Phil Schenck reminded us that this contest will take place Saturday from noon until midnight in Charleston .

Paul Harris Fellows
New Paul Harris Fellows from the Charleston Vandalia Rotary Club include Peggy Schultz and Robert Chilton as well as each of our former club Treasurers. The Treasurers Fellows fees are being paid by the club in recognition of the work they performed in service. The Treasurers who also became Paul Harris Fellows today are Mary Elisabeth Eckerson, John Jividen and Gaylene Miller.

District 7550 Conference
There's still time to register for the November 11-13 th Rotary District 7550 Conference which is being held at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs this year. Registration forms were on your table this morning so if you plan to attend, please fill out your forms and mail them in. If you'd like to register online, please go to our website.

Speaker Notes

We thank Dr. Steve Payne, State Superintendent of Schools for talking to us today about 21 st Century Learning taking place across West Virginia. Evidently, West Virginia is well on its way to mirroring curriculum that is regarded a successful model in teaching necessary skills in information and communication; thinking and problem-solving; and personal and workplace productivity.

Also, we want to belatedly thank Sue Julian and her associate, Tonia for speaking to us about the WV Coalition Against Domestic Violence. At the end of their presentation, Jim Pitrolo presented, much to their surprise, a copy of a brand new executive order reconstituting The Governor's Council on Family Violence. It had sunset some time ago.

Upcoming Speaker

Join us in welcoming Jim Skidmore - Chancellor of the Community & Technical College System.
