Weekly Hightlights

Holiday Meeting Schedule
Mark your calendars, please. There will be no meeting the morning of December 19th. Instead, we will have our annual Christmas party at the Governor's Mansion the evening of the 19th. Also, we will have no meeting the day after Christmas on December 26th and if WVU is victorious tomorrow in the Back Yard Brawl against Pitt, there may also be no meeting on January 2nd. Stay tuned for the last date.

Christmas Bell Ringing
Once again the Charleston Vandalia Rotary Club is helping the Salvation Army by volunteering time to ring bells at the Charleston Town Center Mall. We've completed the November 28th volunteer assignment and thank each of you who donated time. Ringing will run through December 5th at the JC Penney's Entrance upstairs and inside the Town Center Mall. We will volunteer for 2 hour shifts. The first shift begins at 10am-noon, noon-2pm, 2pm-4pm, 4pm-6pm and 6pm-8pm. If you missed the sign up sheet for a shift and want to volunteer, contact Gaylene Miller.

Reverse Raffle
January 18th from 6-10pm, the Charleston Marriott will be the setting for the fifth Charleston Vandalia Rotary Club Reverse Raffle & Revue fund raising event. No more than 250 tickets will be sold and each ticket will cost $100. If you have prizes to donate or want more information about how you can contribute to make this yearly party a huge success, check with Event Chair, Mary Kathryn Saville.

Our goal is to raise $50,000 per year and will be used to fund our Scholarship program for local youth, the Rae of Hope House for women in recovery, purchasing and delivering a dictionary to every Kanawha County 3rd grader, summer camp scholarships, support for parents with small children, immunization for students not covered under other health programs, water projects for underserved areas, and empowerment programs for workforce training.

Flag Exchange
We want to thank club member Debbie High for sharing the Rotary Club flag of Gunnison Colorado with us. Debbie spent eight months in Colorado renovating a cabin and attending meetings in Colorado. Thanks Debbie

Membership Recruitment
The Charleston Vandalia Rotary Club always welcomes new members. If you'd like to join or know someone you'd like to bring we're happy welcome you to the Charleston Vandalia Rotary Club.

Speaker Notes

Many thanks to Dave Higgins for sharing with us progress being made to bring hard track motor sports racing to the eastern end of Kanawha County. Dave is a founding member of the newly created non-profit organization, West Virginia Racing Thunder. The race track has long been the dream of local officials and citizens and it is anticipated that the developer contemplating the investment will make a final decision before Christmas. If you'd like to be part of the growing numbers of boosters, contact the Upper Kanawha Valley Enterprise Center – 595-5991 and ask for Fred Joseph or go to the website.

Upcoming Speaker

Join us this coming Wednesday when we welcome Sally Barton of the Tamarack Foundation.
